over in the ps2 backup forum i read about the different versions (1-6) and laser problems multiple times, i was just wondering does the x-box only have one version and how reliable is the laser, i mean the x-box seems like a rock solid machine (american made) built from the wallet of mr. gates

I have heard nothing of laser problems, other than a very small batch of the initial units having the dreaded "dirty disk" error...the dev groups who have "experimented" with the X-Box have reported that the laser unit on the X-Boxes seems much better quality than ps2...so far it's played pretty much any disk thrown at it...

Yer, I've also heard that the laser in the X-Box is a lot better than the one in the PS2

no need to use apple/verbatim/tdk dvd-r.... any cheap dvd-r will do....
