my computer is not reading my microphone and its plugged in the correct opening in the back of my cpu. i dont know why its not reading it. My mic didn't come w/ any software its one of those cheap plastic ones.
any help-appreciated

You might have to turn it on in the Volume Control properties.

Open sound recorder and press record. Then start speaking into it.

Make sure its on (if there is an on button). Then as fastZ8 said go into sound properties and make sure the mic is turned up and that mic is selected as the input.
