Hi all,
I've got a v5 PAL PS2 that I bought with a pre-installed 'M' chip.
It's been working fine since I got it in January, no problems at all with any games, but this morning it seems to have broken down. When I turn it on, I'm not getting any picture. There is no sound and I don't get the welcome screen with the flying shapes. All I get is a black screen.
I have tried it with no discs in the drive, but nothing happens. It just powers on and stays at a black screen, no welcome screen or memory card manager etc.
I have also tried starting it with a game disc in the drive but there is no change. I tried several types of discs (original games, cdr, dvdr etc) but they just spin for a few seconds in the drive and nothing happens. It doesn't sound like they are loading and there's nothing on the screen.
I was using an RGB Scart cable, but I have also tried using the standard cables that came with the PS2 and there is still no display. I also tried it on a different TV but still no luck.
I don't think there's a problem with the power as both the lights on the front are working and the internal fan is spinning.
Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong with it and how it can be fixed? I didn't install the chip myself so I have no idea about any of the connections, but I have never had any problem with it until now.
