Youll still need to format the drive.

As BIOS and device manager both see the hardware you have set it up correctly (master/Slave etc), it just need formatting before Windows will see it

If you know what you're doing, go ahead, if not let us know and youll be helped through it. :)

only way i thought of doing it was to put the start up disk in and format that drive but the drive has no letter,so the only other way i can think of is to set that drive as my master then start up disk then format that way,
any other info would be great thanks

Probably best way to keep things simple, remove your existing drive IDE cable as you say and leave just your new drive connected so we dont have to mess with drive letters

Boot with a startup disk

When you get the command prompt type FDISK
Choose all the ones (Create partion, use all the available space etc.)

FDISK will perform a couple of scans on your drive then tell you to reboot.

Leave the startup disk in and reboot

This time when the Command prompt comes up type Format c: (where C: is your new drive.)

Let the system format the drive. Then you can shut down, reconfigure your drives (ensure jumpers are set correctly) and start up.

Windows will now see your new drive.

Good luck.

Hello

i think if you use fdisk to delete the active partition then create a new primary dos partition you should be able to format it the same as your first hd
