I find IE 6 to be the most stable and best running of all the Internet Explorer browsers.
Maybe you should upgrade again to IE 6 now that all the bugfixes are in.
If it still gives you problems, drop back down to IE 5.5 SP2.

I had the same problem and searched till i found the fix. It's from microsoft and it's a file called RPC stub repair. The problem happens when certain files are overwritten when installing something. Not sure what it was i installed, but the stub repair file fixed it. The file is here....
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/WIN98/EN-US/mcrepair.EXE
TO USE THE FIX, RUN IT AND CLICK "YES" TO EVERY TIME IT ASKS IF YOU WANT TO OVERWRITE A FILE. DO NOT CLICK "YES TO ALL" !!! CLICK YES FOR EACH ONE INDIVIDUALLY
