You should be posting the first question in the CDRW forum . Anyway I will answer anyway I think it is about 2-3 min on a 40x
as for prices there are some really good offer at www.overclockers.com try checking there for prices. I think it was around £60 for a 32x or something like that

check it out

3 Minutes Plus, the average speed is under 30x, 40x is only reached on the outside part of the disc. Also you have to allow for lead in/out & power calibration (at least 20 seconds)

Also depends on whether the drive is running a Z- CLV or P-CAV firmware although it is my understanding that all "s" models are shipped with Z-CLV.

i have this writer and it is a very good reader too aswella s incredibly fast at writing the lead in and lead outs are fast and on the new clone cd clonecd4 it tells u the speed that its writing at ! i used a 32 speed cdr and got 38x outta it all the way through no drops or anything. make sure u set the jumper to master and have it on its own ide cable as it burns better as i tried cable select and it cud only do 24x max :( and i tried everything but on master its perfect !!! just gotta find some 40x cdrs now

For a 74min burn... Running P-CAV the drive starts writing at 18.97X and gradually reaches 40x (CLV) speed, at the 68 minutes, and continues until the end in that speed. The average writing speed is now 31.53X, instead of 30.49X with the ZS08 firmware(Z-CLV). *

38x is not possible. When running Z-CLV the drive starts writting at 20x for the first 5-7mins or so where it switchs to 24x, then 32x at around 30mins and finally 40x at around 55mins or so.

*info taken from cdrinfo's review of the ZS0D P-CAV firmware.
