CHR15 May 23, 2002, 03:28 PM Have you disabled APM (advanced Power management) in BIOS??
go into BIOS and make sure it is enabled.
Dwhitt May 23, 2002, 05:36 PM you can go into power management in control panel - make sure advanced power management is ticked. If your mobo supports it this will automatically switch your system off when you shut down
GiGaDaNcE_2 May 23, 2002, 06:37 PM i had the same prob, i have a K7AMA mobo and i had to flash my BIOS and i also did ALL of windows update and now it works everytime i re-install windows. Try updating your BIOS m8
;)
BattlefieldNinja May 26, 2002, 05:08 AM It can also be caused by an incomplete installation of a piece of software. If something crashed during install and/or didn't install completely then Windows is waiting for a release message from that software before shutting down...
zerodeck May 26, 2002, 09:19 AM Yes like the others said, make sure Advanced power management is enabled. if it its already, format your drive (backing up any files you want first) and re install win xp from scratch.

solid May 26, 2002, 09:44 AM thanx for the advice guyz the apm is enabled still doesnt work and i dont want to format my whole drive too much information on it.
zerodeck May 26, 2002, 09:46 AM i think formatting may be your only option of you dont want to press the button.
CHR15 May 26, 2002, 11:30 AM Are you SURE its enabled in BIOS?? as well as in Windows.
The entry will probably look like APM/ACPI
zerodeck May 26, 2002, 11:37 AM to get to bios look for something that says press *key* for setup when you first turn on the comp, usually it is del so try pressing del as soon as you turn it on.

Tim_UK May 26, 2002, 11:40 AM If you go to system under control panel then devices and computer does xp say ACPI computer - if not your only option is to force xp to install as acpi (not really recommended but I have done it ok on pc's in past) - the force acpi option is during install you have to press f5 or something when it asks for any special drivers to load - this then gives various options inc acpi.
