jtaylor May 24, 2002, 06:37 AM Aol 6.0, or 7.0 will not go to the internet. It will access anything on AOL's home but shows no page to display when trying to access the internet. Other services have worken on this computer well. AOL has no answer for the problem.
I have uninstalled and re-installed Aol and all networking several times.. Can anyone help please?????
The comp has:
150 mghz processor
32 mb ram
2.1 gb hdd
gooner May 24, 2002, 06:48 AM Instead of using the AOL browser do you have another like IE or Navigator installed locally? If so open that and try some URL's.
If you can visit sites using other browsers then it is the AOL software, if not then it could be one of a hundred of things, try that first and let us know how you get on
jtaylor May 24, 2002, 06:49 PM I have tried that with Netscape and IE, with no results.
With Netscape I get the message: "cannot create a network socket".
Thanks,
Jim T.
uk_trader May 24, 2002, 07:07 PM How longs this prob been going on? AOL doesent connect to the internet properly so it could be a server side fault nothing to do with your comp.
Id suggest contacting them to see what they have to say.
MaX_NormaL May 25, 2002, 05:59 AM Are you using XP, you need a certain AOL version to use with XP. Some ver 7's do and some don't.
jtaylor May 25, 2002, 06:15 PM Its my wife's brothers comp, and he says it worked for 2 days and poof... Don't know about that... ANyway, It has win98 and I have trie it on another comp and it did fine...
Thanks
Zuber7 May 25, 2002, 09:21 PM Your problem might be your computers speed. A 150 mghz processor at 32 mb of ram is pretty slow. In fact, I believe AOL recommends atleast 64 mb of ram for AOL versions 5.0 and higher. I was using a friend's computer the other day with similar specs and it took 10 minutes to load a page. The only version that seemed to work was AOL 2.5.
jtaylor May 25, 2002, 10:03 PM Thanks, I kinda figured that was it. Do you know if the lower versions are still available anywhere??
Badidoh May 26, 2002, 03:56 AM Lower versions are still on the disc, you gotta make windows show hidden files.
I've used 6.0 on a 486 and works perfect, 66mhz, 32mb, 500mb hd & 14.4 modem. Ran file. It's your browser, it's messed up. Try getting it fixed or updating your browser. Mines was messed up so I just formatted and everything seems to work fine.
But remember, look at my signature, thats my computer now, but still I mess with my old 486
zerodeck May 26, 2002, 08:53 AM Try changing the security by right-clicking internet explorer and going to properties and it might work.
MaX_NormaL May 26, 2002, 10:24 AM I used to have v5.0 on my old 200mhz with 16Mb RAM and was nowhere near that slow
jtaylor May 26, 2002, 11:39 AM Thanks everyone !!!
