Hi Yall.

I have a problem with Windows XP Pro. I downloaded Windows XP for my computer because my original copy is scratched pretty bad. Anyways, everytime i connect to DSL, Windows downloads Windows Update. The first time i installed Windows XP, i didnt have any problems. I had to reinstall Windows XP because my Hard Drive was messed bad and it always installs Windows Update automatically.

Anyway, everytime i restart my computer i come to a black screen and it will stay there, therefore i cant log on to Windows. I always have to go to Advanced Start Up and select Go to "Last Known Configuration That Worked". This is extremely annoying because everytime i restart i have to do this and i lose all my settings. Extremely frustrating.

Can someone help me out. Thanks :o)

It sounds like one or more windows file has corrupted. Try doing a system restore.

Have you tried turning off auto-update under XP, if you have it on, XP will check as soon as it finds a connection and start the update.

I could be barking up the wrong tree, but this is what I think you meant by your question.
