Virgin San May 24, 2002, 01:50 PM This is no bug its a form of protection from piracy, the game validates from info on the disc .... did you put the cd in? It might be that the original game from which your "backup" was made had some protection such as safedisc which must be copied in a specific way to make a full working copy (for example, using software such as clonecd).
hobogobo May 24, 2002, 01:59 PM you could use a no cd crack
molx1 May 24, 2002, 02:04 PM try looking on the cd if it has a crack foldr then you need to copy the contents of the crack folder to where the game has been installed
if there is no crack folder then like hobogobo said you need a no cd crack
Virgin San May 24, 2002, 02:06 PM ... go on then, explain to him what a no-cd crack is, tell him where to get it and how to use it ... or you could just up your post count with a useless one liner :furious:
sont123 May 24, 2002, 03:00 PM thanks guys
so it is nothing 2 do with windows xp then
cheers
CHR15 May 24, 2002, 03:47 PM Something else you can try here:
The copies of the games you already own were more than likely Cloned, that is they were copied using CloneCD (the prefered software app for most people).
Some protection methods employed on game disks enable them to look at the disk itself and determine if it a CD-R disk. If it is, then the game will not load (Insert CD message).
A way around this is by using a feature of CloneCD called Hide CD-R Media
You will need CloneCD Installed, download it from here:
www.elby.de
Once Installed it will place an icon in the system tray (by the clock). The Hide CD-R media is enabled by default.
This may solve the problem, I recently backed up a few of my own Sims Expansions and this was rectified by this method.
If this doesn't work the you could try the No CD Patch.
No CD Patches are around and do work, you can get them from places such as:
www.gamecopyworld.com
They normally contain the main game Executable. you simply overwrite the one which was installed during the Installation with the one downloaded.
Edit
Cheers Hiboy for the reminder  I was in auto there :)
hiboy May 24, 2002, 04:20 PM you shouldnt realy be asking this question as request for cracks and how to install cracks is against the rules , but if you have a question about a back up of a cd then you should post this question in the VGB forum .
Lazza May 24, 2002, 07:20 PM Moving this to VGB forum.
uk_trader May 24, 2002, 07:34 PM try searching for the game title then no cd check/crack at www.google.com
Id post an exact url but the rules change here so much I dont know if its allowed
celtic_druid May 25, 2002, 01:05 AM Game cracks are ok. It is cracks for software that is not allowed. A keygen for a game would also not be allowed.
