OK I'm not going to ask why your recording VCDs to VHS, IMHO it's kind of like wanting to record your CDs to Vinyl. You could always just hit pause on the VCR when the 1st VCD ends, CHange discs and hit pause again to start recording but if you don't like the slight jump in the picture that will cause here's one method of joining VCDs:

1) Convert the VCDs to MPG (http://www.vcdhelp.com/convertdat.htm)
2)Join the 2 MPGs Together (http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencedit.htm)

you now have a long MPG (too big for a CD) So I gather you have a TV out card & that's how you are recording to Video?.

or you can just have the folder pptions set to show file extensions, then after you copy the .dat file to your harddrive, you can just rename it xxxxx.mpeg(instead of .dat) and it will change automatically(a dat is a mpeg basically) saves some time

sorry your losing me ....you mean copying my vcd's to my hard drive rename as ...make my pc search for file extension and that will
1 make the play automatic
2 a smoother join

when you go into the folder mpgeav to watch the movie, it is named aqsve.dat right(well close to that)

Then go to view, folder options, and click it to show file extensions, then you need to copy the aqsve.dat from the cd, to the harddrive, then rename to whatever you want.mpeg

no need for searching for a file
