Depends on your system
They recommend at least a 300mhz & 64mb and 1gb of hd
But it won't slow down the PC, except when burning (most still)
But then it's all up to your computer

The drive will not slow your computer down BUT your computer may limit the speed at which the drive can write at.

It's all down to the speed at which your computer can supply the data to the drive and while most drives these days have some kind of 'burn-proof' technology (basically 'burn-proof' almost eliminates the drive making coasters) this can only do so much if not kept supplied with data. Some drives can actually pause writing until data becomes available again so this would be of benefit to you. Ask your retailer if the drive you have chosen does this.

You will have to experiment to kind the fastest speed your system is capable of - you may buy a drive that can write at, say, 24x but you may be limited to, say, 16x.

Still, not a bad speed to be writing at!

Like Andyr told you,

the pc should not be the problem (unless it is REALLY old). However it might be possible that you can not write at the maximum speed, just because your PC can't handle.
When writing, there is a possibility that the writer writes faster than your PC can supply data. Your writing speed will be limited then. This however does not affect your pc's performance.

In other words: your PC might slow down your CDRW, not opposite.

as been said, but go buy liteon 40 cheap and reliable I don't think
your pc will slow this down, the only sure way to find out is to fit
it and experiment.

it will not slow it down unless your sytem spec is really low but ive got a burnproof 16x dvd/cdwriter combo by Lg so sytem does not affect it,however i never write anything higher then 8x because it just reduces the chance of a succesfull write.] My stem is 2 gig athlon and i can surf internet at samew time still dont affect the burning process though. Burnproof is good however I here theres this new technology now called Blue laser which i read in pc active mag and it copies dvd directly.
