For those of you who are interested about the V4 no-solder mod, I have just installed one and I have some complaints/compements about it.

This chip is harder to install than the diagrams look online... The area that you have to work with between the board and the hard drive bay is very limiting which makes it so your fingers cant squeeze in, forcing you to carefully resort to tweezers. The chip is really freakin small, and that little pink connector is really hard to disconnect and reconnect. The ribbon cable on my V4 ps2 didnt have that nice long blue tab thing that the one at lik-sang had so it was that much more difficult to reach, an I ended up creasing the cable (luckily It still worked). The ribbon cable is fairly thin about .25" wide, and it is a pain to plug in, because of its thinness, it crumpled, and bent very easily. It doesnt give you much leverage as you install it. Also, it was very scary to plug in the chip to the ribbon connector because it requires much more force than it appears. You will really need to force it in.
After the installation though, I was happy that it worked and although people often complain about the 630mb boot limit, I could really care less, there are no mod patches for most games. Also, it is really weird how the reset light can turn from red to a yellow. I also must comment that the disk drive seems to fly out much faster than than usual. But it really does make life easier to swap and boot games, the whole point of this chip.

Oh and one more thing, I dont think I will ever be willing to reopen my ps2, so I have to hope the chip is durable for I dont think the chip can be easily uninstalled.

I've just fitted one to my brothers and it took me about 10 minutes including disassemble and reassembly. Be of a shame its limited to a 650MB TOC (or something like that)

put in a neokey in conjunction and it'll get rid of the toc limit

Can you still put in games like before or can you only play backupS?

I don't get it...

Like can you insert an original game and play like normal or do you need to insert it and then reboot or what... I am a little lost....

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Yeah, it only works if you hold the eject button down, or else it will be like normal. Its really funny to hold the eject button while the ps2 is in standby because it would eject the drive without turning the system on. :)
The light will turn strangely yellow after you hold the button down for about two seconds, enabling you to do the swap.

supercam, why did you get involved? Not very clever.
