when i play movies on windows media player, i can't adjust the brightness of the video......i used to be able to though......the only thing that i can think of is i just downloaded a new driver for my video card......does anybody think that could be the problem. is there any other suggestions out there?

ok...i reinstalled my old drivers, and it didn't help......any other advice?

I also reinstalled windows media player.......please help me...this is getting annoying....i can't even see the actors faces

How you used to adjust it before ? Through software you mean to say ??
You can also try Brightness and Contrast controls on your monitor.

i used to adjust it through windows media player, and i have tried to adjust it through the monitor, but the movie doesn't get brighter.....only everything else.....also, the brightness works on some other movies....one of the movies though, it worked on and now doesn't........
anymore ideas?

they are avi files.......on star wars II, i can adjust the brightness, and on spiderman i can't......and lord of the rings, i used to be able to, but now i can not anymore

Assuming that they are divx there should be a brightness slider on the decoder filter.

i know that this may sound like adumb question, but what is a decoder filter and where do i look for it at?

It is a directshow filter used by windows media player along with many other players for decoding the video of an AVI file. You can access it's settings from wmp or from a link in the divx folder on your startup menu.
