sorry if this makes me sound like a dumbass but was out of the CDR scene since the 6x burners came out :( perhaps some of you knowledgable people can offer me some answers

I got a few questions I hope someone can answer for me.

use to have a Yamaha burner and it was good for its time and does what I needed. but it's damn slow.

with seeing how cheap CDRs are I grabed a repackaged Lite-On cdrw (Cyndne)

I been using Imiations CDR (rated 1x-8x) for awhile with my friend's 4x yamaha also.

I did 6 burns with my new CDR using Nero5 both on Win98 (not SE) and WinXP (dual boot system) they all ended up unreadable.
(I was using the Imattion CDRs)
1burn DATA 32x winxp
2burn data 8x winxp
3burn data 4x winxp
4burn Audio CD 8x
5burn 8x Win98
6burn 8x winxp (try changing some iso option setting)

CAn anyone offer me some insite why all my burns failed?

anyway I still have stock piles of cDR media lying around (got them prior to when 8x+ burners were out) . some of them don't say any speed on it. What is the effect of burning say at 16x/24x/32x on a cdr that have no speed listed on it or listed as slower than it can be recorded?

also what exactally is nero's "SmartBurn" and the drive's "BurnProof TEchnology"?

32x would be sweet if I can get this thing working right.

thanks in advance

Ur prob isnt the media it that 32x burner i had one of them before and it too made discs that would not read after they are burned. SO i took it back now i have a liteon 40x and love it i also own 2 24x liteon burners they work fine u might try to see if there is a new firmware upgrade also have u called Cyndne that is who made my 40x and it is a liteon

I have some CD's without any speed on it. After doing an audio CD at 12X (maximum speed of my burner) I experienced some problems with the audio on reading in a home cd.

my liteon 32x write `s fine no probs with it all so maybe it`s not the burner

I did a few more burns
TDK (no speed listed) 16x
Noname brand 80 no speed CDR. 8x.

and they worked flawlessly. I guess teh Imation CDRs just sucks.
damn have to waste 8 cdrs just to find out my LiteOn have problems with the imation.

I also updared my firmware just in case ;)

now again what is "smartburn" and "burnproff" techonlogy ?

thaks :)

Had a similiar problem myself with a few old maxell gold cd's i had lying around a few weeks ago. They were rated at 4x so i decided just to finish them off. I had a ten pack. the first 3 cd's were unreadable (coffee Coasters Now). So i decided to force the speed on the writer to 4x. Problem solved.

Current burners are able to burn at high speed. Most burners self adjust themself to the media, but the case is regardless to what the disc states, the burner will try to push it and in some cases will succeed.

Example: I burnt at 32x with a 20x media no problems.

But old media stated at 4x or 8x i advise you to stick at that speed.
If they are old and have no name and you don't know the speed rating play it safe and burn at 4x.

Happy Burnings

Burn-Proof (stands for Buffer Under RuN error PROOF) originally created by Sanyo to prevent making coasters from Buffer Underrun problems by pausing the burning when there is not enough data stream supplied to the burner's buffer due to multitasks, for example. The burning will be resumed once the data could be supply continuously to the buffer.

Smart Burn (stands for Smart Monitoring & Adapting Recording Technology for Burning) is very similar to Burn-Proof. It is the Lite-On's version of Burn-Proof as many people jokingly say. Actually, Smart Burn can do more than Burn-Proof can for fast burners, in which Smart Burn can recognize the quality of the media in the burner and then adjusts the burn speed accordingly to make sure you have a quality burn.

I know about burn proof and smart burn already. As I stated before the recorder was burning at full 24x, when i manually drop the recording speed to 4x the remaining 7 CD's burnt just fine (4 data + 3 audio). Had Smart burn detected that the media was a 4x I would not have lost the first 3cd's.

remember, nothing in this world is perfect.

My post above is for the thread starter GenIV, who asked "now again what is "smartburn" and "burnproff" techonlogy ?"
