try burn a audio cd on the fly the slowest i can 8x using NERO the read buffer bar goes below 50% and the write buffer bar at times shoots up & down below 10% which means the burnt cd has gaps/jumps in it.
CDROM set as "slave" on primary IDE.
WRITER set as "master on secondary IDE.
could i have set the jumper wrong on th HDD. before it would'nt fire up until i moved the jumper on the HD.now been as there's 3 options on the HD one must be MASTER one must be SLAVE PRESENT whats the other option.
i've now wasted 2 discs,so i've ended up back at square one using the writer for both jobs which i can burn 24x no probs.

IDE devices have 3 jumper settings - Master, Slave and Cable Select, usually designates as Ma, Sl & Cs. Cable select means the motherboard works out if the device is master or slave depending on it's position on the cable BUT not many motherboards support this feature.

In Nero make sure that 'enable burnproof' is selected. Also check the burner's properties in Device Manager , DMA & Disconnect should be enabled & sync data transfer disabled.

You'll get a low buffer when burning on the fly if your reader isn't twice as fast (with DAE) as the writter is burning, ie a 24x writter needs a CDROM with 48x DAE. Buffer underruns on burnproof burners generally only occur if Burnproof is switched off on the burning software or the DMA & disconnect settings are incorrect on the burner. Occasionally it's due to the Burner being set up in the wrong PIO mode in the BIOS.
