OK i have the latest version of aspi installed on win xp and am using plextor 24/10/40a. While also using 24x media, burning was taking on average 4mins (i.e burning just an image from hard drive to cd) but lately it has gone up to 8mins at fastest, with all processes closed and norton virus disabled while burning. DMA has been enabled, and when Nero 5.8.8.2 (latest version) finally ends, it says it avoided a buffer underrun 200 or so times !!! the hard disk doesnt need fragmenting i dont think as ive only just installed xp again (clean install like a week ago) i cant remember my internal config, all i have is a hard drive and the plextor, i think set up so Hard drive=Pri Master and CD-RW= Sec Master-is that correct yea ?

Does anybody know why suddenly my writing speeds have fallen so much ? even nero speed test only calcuatles the transfer rate at about 12x !! i have updated to the latest plextor firmware and everythin-is it possible a faulty drive? I havent got my via chipset 4in1 drivers installed-are these necessary, and would they help ???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

p.s just did a defrag of my hard drive, and still no luck, also tried cdrwin, which estimates writing time to take 4mins, but still takes 8-9mins -any1 able to help ???

I had a similar prob, same writer.
Solved by installing the latest via chip set 4 in 1 drivers from motherboard manufacturers web site.
Now everything great.
Can go into Nero and disable burn-proof and do a test burn on MP3 to audio disk at x20 speed, (this is a great test method !) No problems.
Moral is ......install the motherboards via chip set drivers.

hey mate, yea funnily enuff i just did a clean install, and bobs ur uncle, its working at 24x again !!! strange huh ! anyways ive set a couple of system restore points, so if it does mess up again ill install the 4in1's-altho on the via website it says not to use them unless REALLY needed. ahh well ill wait and see. strange problem though eh ? what motherboard do you have interestingly enough ?

Blimey it is ! anyways ive installed the 4in1s as well, still workin well takin 4mins a cd from the hard drive, any probs will post here again, cheers.
