The Windows applications below should allow you to import the picture types listed alongside. These have not all been tested, so you may get a message similar to
Filter not found
if a particular graphics filter is not available.
Paintbrush :
.bmp .dib .msp .pcx
Word:
.adi .bmp .cdr .cgm .dib .drw .dxf .gif .hgl .pcd .pct .pcx .pic .plt .tif .tga .wpg .wmf
Coreldraw:
.bmp .cdr .cgm .dxf .eps .gem .pcc .pct .pcx .pic .pif .plt .tif
LView:
.bmp .dib .gif .jpg .tga
Publisher:
.adi .bmp .cdr .cgm .dib .drw .dxf .eps .gif .hgl .pcd .pct .pcx .pic .plt .tga .tif .wmf .wpg
Powerpoint:
.adi .bmp .cdr .cgm .dib .drw .dxf .eps .gif .hgl .pcd .pct .pcx .pic .plt .tif .tga .wpg .wmf

I think ages ago they used to be for plotter type drawings - before colour printer were cheap - used to have some great big hp plotters at work - think we used freelance program to produce them.
Didn't know they were still about but you could try if your graphics program will open them.

Its a HP Graphics Language.
You will need to install a filter into Word, Powerpoint etc in order to import it into a document.
Some info:
This first one has the filter for download.

For your information pijl, you might find the following helpful now and in the future www.filext.com This site has 1000's of file extensions and you can search really really easy for the file extension you want and it will have a description of what it is - hope you find that helpful

And if you can't find an answer there, here is a file extension search http://extsearch.com/
I have had to try a couple of different sites in the past to find a more obscure file extension.
The one posted by gooner001 is great though, because it often has a link to the program you need for the file.
