Upon opening smartripper i get a pop up screen notifying me that
no aspi adaptor is availible

anyone help me as to what is wrong?

Well,

I have never gotten that error is SmartRipper before (or any ASPI error is SmartRipper for that matter)... but it sounds like your ASPI layer is hosed.

You can try reinstalling it.

Since you are using WinXP, follow the directions here (http://www.cdrom-guide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5769)

Let us know how that does.

I get the same error on the same setup but I can still rip and burn with no problems. I guess there is some reason I probably should be using aspi but I'm not sure what it is : )
