hi all, i just chipped my xbox with enigmah-x (bare leg chip version) and it was soooo easy (b4 this i had only chipped a psx which was pre wired)!
anyway the reason it was so easy is because i used solder paste, all u do it dip the tip of the wire in the paste, heat up the solder point very gently (i just tapped it against the pad for about 3 seconds) then introduce the wire with a touch of solder paste on it! thats it, easy as that, no messing about! i would fully reccomend it if ur not very confident soderer!

and the best bit is it works perfectly, looking forward to getting some dvd-r's in the post tommorow cause i have a 80gb HD full of xbox games and cant wait to try each of em + cant wait for the divx player too!

its like $39 in us dollars. You can change the currency at the bottom right side of the page. Looks like there is a lot of it if you can do 400-500 mod installs with it. I too, wish they had a smaller amount so i could spend less, because i am only planning to mod 2 or 3 systems.

isnt that stuff basically called "SOLDER FLUX" , Flux is really cheap at any hardware store.Like $2.00 for it...what it does is wherever you put the flux the solder will flow to when you heat it....same stuff right???

heck google or something about "FLUX" , to make sure its pretty much the same product...i think FLUX Is a liquid , but you can also get it in a paste........im just trying to look out for you guys so you dont spend $40 for something that cost $2, i hope this helps..........

They actually do make a no solder paste. Yep, no solder iron needed. I have seen it but I dont know what it costs or how it works.

I think the only reason that this stuff working on the Xbox install of modchips is that all the points that the enigmah needs to soldered to are presoldered, so all this stuff is doing is making the solder already at that point flow onto the tip of the wire a little bit like Buddnice said. I don't beleive that this stuff will work if the points are not presoldered.

If your soldering iron tip is clean with no slurry on it and you tin the wires before offering them up to the solder point then solder paste is not neccessary. The paste is most useful for cleaning and tinning the tip of the iron in one go.

You should use resin cored solder which acts as both cleaner and fluxer.

The secret to good soldering is cleanliness.

some ppl have got the wrong idea bout this stuff, its not a glue or flux, its a greyish paste that when it comes into contack with heat it turns into molted solder, let it cool and it looks exactly like the real stuff - bright shiny silver solder!

ps i know its expensive but i bought it cause if i fitted mine w/o probs i said i would do alot of others for my friends that would never b bothered to send their xbox away but would like a modded console!

try radio shack. if you don't have one of those, try lowe's or home depot or something like that. just get some solder paste in the plumbing department by the copper pipe and fittings. it's the same stuff.

If it is for plumbing it may have acid in it. Acid is very bad, corrods the board. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK ANY PLUMBING SOLDER SUPPLIES.

forgot about that Springfield_PD, definitely make sure to get acid free paste. it would surely trash the board.

hey greenhead90, just saw your post about what it is you are actually talking about. i haven't heard of what you are talking about, but it's not flux, sorry to add to the misinformation. but for those of you who can't get ahold of the solder paste, i always use flux paste when i solder. i just sucks the solder right to it, makes for easier soldering.

I know it would trash the board, thats what I said. In your first post you suggest the plumbing department, I just wanted to make sure that the uniformed didn't get stuff with acid in it.

I have no idea about soldering whatsoever is it worth me trying to fit the
enigma chip or am I commiting suicide!!!

xsdef, i had only ever installed a psx chip (ages ago) but i thought f@@@ it, ill give it a go but to b honest i was fully prepaired to buy a prechipped xbox if i messed this one up (i wanted to do it for the challenge really) but i practiced ALOT on an old internal modem and got comfotable with the idea of modding my own xbox and i found it really EZ!

if u get the kit required practice untill ur comfertable and u should b OK!
