Didnt see this on the forum, if its old news let me know...but I found it interesting. Found it on another site..

They switched the Xbox DVD drive with a Pioneer DVD-105SZ.
The drive was put in slave mode and they used a splitter from the HDD powerconnector to power the Pioneer DVD-105SZ. (xbox DVD powercable uses a special connector).
All dvd-r, dvd-rw, cd-r, cd-rw worked , and even faster then with the original drive (the Pioneer DVD-105SZ has a faster read speed).
So all people looking for a solution to read any brand of cd-r's can try this trick.
Only downside : the xbox will not read original xbox games anymore & you need to power off the console to change game/disk. (eject doesn't work)

Note that this has NOT been tested by XXX-XXXXXX(yet) , but several people confirm it on the ******-forum thread.

Kinda of interresting...huh :clown:

Well Im sure most of us own more backups than originals. I own about 300 Dreamcast copies, but only 3 originals (uh, all my other originals are in storage, thats what I meant to say)

I couldnt tell you the last time a played an original in my Dreamcast, and I bet eventually Xbox will be the same...again, this may not be practical, but it is interesting, and it does give hope that there may be other advances in the future (boot cd, etc)

Juz my 2 cents

no, theyre not backups then, cos they are samples! we destroy them 24hours after we get them u see. because we get some everyday, we always have some knocking around before some get destroyed

well you see mitsu50 uh...

what i meant to say was.....

i mean....

OK you got me. BUT I have 2 Xbox's and one I will mod the other I wont, so in my case it would not hurt to switch the DVD.

But to get back to the subject, this is still good news...if you can switch the DVD what else could you switch. And like I said this may lead to other options...

I think Im up to 4 cents now :round:

You can switch the leads inside for 100 speed instead of 33 speed to speed things up.... (HD and DVD cables)

LOL! What a thread! Yeah, I wasn't trying to be facs...fascisou...uh, funny. Just adding my point to the discussion.

I don't have ANY Xbox back-ups. Yet. :-) Just about 10 originals and I'm for damn sure not going to get rid of them in favor of back-ups. But yes, it opens up a world of "Hmmmm's" as to what might be done within ye ole 'box. :)

why mess about with all this drive swapping when the "Sirius" brand of cdr will work in xbox's just fine.

Never heard of that brand. Where might one acquire such a brand of CD-R?

Hmmm food for thought if they sort out the eject signal somehow.
But the thing is, CDR costs around 20p on average, Bulkpaq DVDR costs just 79p
For the extra 59p I think I will use DVDR for all my xbox games, oh and they all work fine on my xbox/xtender

ph33nix : Not everyone can afford a dvd writer though so that's why people are desperate for it to accept cdr, to be honest I prefer to burn a small cd sized game onto dvd-r also coz cdr still does have it's problems, the games glitche from time to time & freezes on cdr coz the xbox just doesn't cdr's.

Also I have a Shed load of CD-RW that work fine so if you want games on CD not DVD then go that way. The price of CD-RW has dropped loads lately. + when you find a game is REAL pants just burn over.

this may not work, but instead of changing the dvdrom would we be able to just change the laser unit?that way you still have the eject reset.
