Just Installed BT Broadband, but my pc would not start up. As it was not working perfectly beforehand a friend advised me to re-install windows 98, over the previous copy.
I installed it ok, and the Broadband loaded first time.
I now have 2 windows folders (one is windows.000) and they both have pretty much the same folders in them, but one has a lot more files.
Is this normal when re-installing?
Now the pc cannot find my modem and I keep getting fatal exception faults with my sound card.
Does anyone know any really good sites about re-installing Windows and all the troubleshooting involved.
I really hope I get some replies
Cheers

I would format the drive and start from scratch, after I backed up all of my personal files

sounds like youve put 98se over the top of 98 m8.
Deerballs has given you the best solution but do make sure you back up all info you want to keep.I had the same thing happen to me a while ago.Just treat it as a lesson to remember.

Before you re-installed did you rename your windows folder (i.e .old)?

If not windows produces a new folder and that's why you now have two sets of system files!!!!

You could troubleshoot but not guaranteed to work 100%

Best option is to back up personal files, reformat and do a clean install.

Thanks for all the help.
I did not rename my windows folder, so thats probably one (or more)of my problems.
I'm learning a little more each day!
