I just bought X-Box console today and when I tried to play some of my music CD-R's in the console, it wouldnt read the disc. When I get my chip installed will it take care of this problem and is this standard in all X-Box consoles? Please forgive me if this topic has been covered before, but like I said, I just got my console and was wondering why it wouldnt read any brand of CD-R? Any input from ya'll X-Box headz out there would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Stonington

the mod makers say wether a console is modded or not it will not affect the xbox's ability (or non ability lol) to read cd-r's which i have found to be true, when i installed me enigmah i tried to boot the enigmah video mode selector from a cd-r and no boot, so i thought id buggered my install, but then tried wwf raw (wicked game imo) and it booted first time it was on apple dvd-r!

the chips make the xbox read cdrs it normally does not? this is news to me!!! the xbox wasn't designed for cdr but cdrw, even though it does read certain brands of cdr burned at lower speeds...if this is a fact then it'll be another reason for considering getting my machine chipped I suppose...

NO.. the chip will NOT make your xbox read any other media than what it was designed for.
It will read cdrw, it will read dvdr and it will read original music and game discs but it will NOT read cdr's as a matter or course.
You would need to swap out the dvdrom for a new one but if you do that it will then NOT read original games.
So either way you lose...
Just stick to cdrw or dvdr and you will be fine...
