How fast does my cdrom have to be to record in the fly w/ my liteon 32X ? I'm debating whether or not to get a liteon dvdrom w/ 48X read speed but it does not read dvd ram discs like the toshiba 40X dvd rom. I would like to take maximum advantage of my write speed with my lite on recorder. Would 40X read speed suffice with my liteon 32X speed cd writer? Thank You:)

Well.... in theory 40x is faster than 32x, so one would say it should be fast enough to prevent your burner from buffer underruns or slow burning because of a lack of data supply.

Is you writer writing at 32 or reading at 32? Also does it support burnproof?
Also if it is writng at 32 and you have a 40 speed reader. You will find that music will be read less than the write speed because music is read slower than data

i have a 24x lite-on writer and a 52x lite-on cdrom.
crafty is right about the data/music though, because i put a mp3 disk in the reader and a blank in the writer,to burn to audio on fly at 24x no probs.
put a audio cd in the reader and a blank in the writer burn on fly at 24x might have a few hiccups/underruns even after adjusting the buffer in nero.
the thing i've found though is if the reader is trying to read a scratched disc i'm more likely to have underuns than a unscratched one,so i'd reduce the speed in this case.

I have a 32x speed writer. Is there a max read speed set for all audio reading then, or are certain readers(48-52x) going to have slighly higher reading speeds for reading audio so that I can set burning speeds on my cd writer a little higher? How do I check my audio readin speed?

p.s I'm using nero & have burn proof

ive learned this people always copy audio to the hard drive first with like music match then burn it back off with like nero cuz you will almost always
get errors when trying to make a 1 to 1 copy even when the write is a success you will notice the audio will have nicks in it

as far as i've tried know i don't think you can adjust the read settings if your burning on fly, cause the reader starts up fast then slows, speeds are up and down probably to stop the writing getting a underrun.if your using the writer for reading/writing then you seem to have adjustment.might be wrong though.

Download cd speed obtainable at site:
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/.It will test your dae(digital audio extraction)but if you are having problems with buffer underrun, the easy way out is take it to your hard disk first

The addy is incorrect crafty, try here, http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html

If youve got nero I recommend this tool also NeroInfo tool the info this little util provides, gives a lot of pointers when helping to try solve a problem on the forum.
