Hi All,

Can somebody possibly please explain the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R please as I've heard that DVD+R is taking over from -R.

Cheers

r is only for standalone recordersas far as i no the dvd+is only for stand alone dvd recorders such as the phillips where you also need a dvd player to play of and record from machine to machine by scart lead.it is much easier and you can get two films on one disc easy, but the price of blanks is two to three times more.
also they cannot use dvd-r at all.but i might not be correct on this but im almost shure that they will play in any dvd player

DVD+RW work on most standalone dvd players but DVDrs have a higher compatability rate. Also the current Philips standalone decks cannot write to DVD+R discs or DVDrs infact they will never be able to write to DVDrs as this is a rival format. The + formats only hope of success is to start producing cheap write once media as soon as possible as they have fallen behind in terms of price per disc. Only the future + decks wll be able to record to write once media

HI Lads,

Did some research on this and apparently I've been told by most computer retailers that they are just two different formats developed. The DVD-R is being pused by companies like Pioneer and so on and the DVD+R is being pushed by Sony and Microsoft. One won't work in anothers drive but according to reports the DVD+R is more stable at writing and they expect the cd prices to drop for the DVD+R!

Thanks

yes but it could be too late by then especially since DVDR DVDRW has taken a head start. At the end of the day DVD ram is the best format of the lot with its ability to play and record at the same time

I have had no stability problems with my Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM combo drive whatsoever, even with cheap DVD-R blanks.
