I'm using WinXP, and I have a ESS 56K modem which won't disconnect on occations. When I'm in the middle of downloading and my connection reaches the 2 hour cut off, the connection icon dissappears and looks as if it is disconnected. But when I look at the 'Windows Task Manager', It tells me that I'm still connected, but 'not operational'. I'm still able to connect to the net with ANOTHER connection, but no trafic in either dirrection. The only way I can fix it is to restart.

This is really bugging me, and interupts my automated system. Also this never happened when using Win98SE.

Is there some setting, script, or program to close all comm ports and connections?

What you do is, when online, go to My network places, look for your modem/isp, open it, the one that is active, and click on disconnect, that should work :hdspin:

Does this happen after or just before the 2 hours? When I was on 56k and it was after 2 hours it would act funny.

Badidoh, you trying to take the piss, i ain't a total moron. I can diconnect a modem manually.

Roger Moore. It happens after the 2 hours are up, but the modem stays connected and makes it impossible for other connections to function properly.

ltww I used to have exactly the same problem, there's nothing you can do about it. Just try and disconnect before the two hours is up.

Roger you say you used to have the same problem which suggests you don't have it anymore, perhaps you can enlighten us as to how you circumvented the problem.
