i have win xp home ed and i want to install win ME, but i cant install it on my computer as it says i cant install an os lower than 2000, i havnt got a floppy drive and when i boot from my cd drive it doesnt reconise the cd as an OS, what can i do to install it and will it install through dos, and how do i boot to dos in xp without a floopy drive?

You can't install ME after XP. You can do ME then install XP and XP will create a boot menu.
If you want ME+XP on you will have to format.

You could try booting an old OS CD like Win98 which boots into DOS before installing. Then when you get into DOS mode, switch CD's over. That might work, otherwise you may have to format and start again.

I never use simple methods...just not obvious at the time. I use a partition program, free up some spce, make it the active partition, install whatever OS, and then edit the boot.ini
You may have to hide the original OS just while installing, so that its not detected. I use partition magic for Windows and for DOS. With a DOS copy you can undo mistakes easy enougth. DOS version won't install under XP, so you will have to get hold of that somehow, or from someone. Like I said I have a version.
