I have Win 98 now, and I have an XP CD. When I enter the installation it doesn't give me an option to upgrade, only an option for a New Installation.
I don't want to lose my files so I would prefer upgrading.

This is what the screen looks like.

Sorry about the bitmap, but I saved it in 16 colors so it shouldn't be too bad.

~Thanks in advance

What version of XP are you installing, and are there any other partitions apart from the one with 98?

It says Final Patched Win XP Professional (OEM) and I don't have any other partitions. I just checked using Partition Magic.
I have AutoPlay disabled so I'll try clicking the other icons on the CD.

Maybe its not an upgrade CD? There might be two versions, one for upgrades and the other for normal installs?

Are you trying to do it from Windows or DOS?

I myself am not a big fan of the upgrade option....I always format and install the full version.....I have a friend that upgraded his ME to XP and it just doesnt seem to run as well as a fresh full install. But this all depends on if you want to backup any files you want to keep and do a full install

OEM versions of the CD cannot do upgrades. You might as well just do a clean install.
