Hope this isnt old news...pulled it off another site, it was dated May 15

Microsoft are not known to stand idly by while they lose money. As far as XBox is concerned they seem to be doing the same. Plans for XBox 2 are well under way, with a reported release of the re-vamped XBox in September, 2002. What are those plans? The reduction of hardware prices.

Apparently Microsoft have already managed to squeeze their DVD suppliers to a 30 percent reduction and are now pressuring Intel and nVidia, their processor and graphics suppliers. Those two companies will be harder to convince however, since both seem to be complaining about XBox sales so far. Intel even went as far as to say in its most recent financial report that the Pentium IIIs it is supplying to Microsoft show "flat growth".

Microsoft are so focused on price cuts though, that they are willing to change suppliers if they don't get their way. The success of their competitors and their dwindling XBox sales are a serious incentive to bargain hard. With recent XBox sales estimates from Microsoft dropping from 6 million units to 4 million, it is obvious that something has to be done. It is refreshing however, to see that MS are willing to do what they claimed they would i.e. stick with it in the console market and stay for the duration.

It seems like I heard someone mention Xbox 2 on the forum before,,,but I thought they may be just joking...

I doubt the new system will mean a change in the games (IE PS1 to PS2) but for those who dont get an Xbox 1 before the new ones come out...you may have to wait even longer for a new chip...cause Im guessing M$ knows its been cracked and are going to 'switch a couple of wires'

Sorry mate, that rumor is moot because MS dropped the price. Besides, you've failed to cite your source...we can't determine it's veracity.

I also heard rumors that there will be a new xbox out it will be smaller and lighter with cheaper hardware so they can start making some money off this system but like everything else its a wait and see situation! :P

there is always no worry ppl, if all those xbox1 are sold out and there is only xbox2 in the store, just wait until those ppl sell their second hand xbox1 because they will soon realise how crap xbox is...

advice: don't really see the point of having one... at all

Don't really see what you mean. How crap xbox is?
Then why are you in a xbox forum?

Oh and the title of the thread is a bit misleading, its not xbox 2 is it?
Its just another version of xbox 1 (version 1.1?).

The September release is most likely only going to be a change to reduce some costs.

There are rumors of an X-box coming out with TIVO type capabilities. Its a decent idea, buy one expensive item to replace 2 expensive items. And since their Ultimate TV failed it would be a way to give them a hook and get back into the PVR business. But that's just a rumor.

I doubt they'll change the graphics card in it. Wouldnt that mean that the new one will need different drivers for the graphics card and the game devolpers would then have to program each game twice for the different xbox's. One possibility is to do a die shrink of the graphics card so it is cheaper.

It's the same as Sony revamping the internals of the PS2 - what are we on now version 5 right?

It doesn't mean Xbox 2 like PS2 was to PS1 - it's just about cutting costs on the internals.

Expect the "real" Xbox 2 in around 3-4 years time.

Its not gonna change the gaming world. It gonna be cheaper to make, smaller, and lighter. They shouldn't call it X-box2, it more like X-box Revamped. They will probably need new chips for it, but it won't take long, cause they already know what to do. It may be lower quality that the X-box out now, cause the parts are cheaper.
