Are Western Digital hard drives any good ? How do they compare to Samsung HDDs ?

Yes.Ive had 3 of them and they all still work just fine.I dont know about samsung though.

I've never owned one myself but i'm getting one soon the Western Digital Caviar 80GB Special Edition is the fastest IDE drive currently available almost on a par scsi drive.

Samsung I wouldn't recommend. WD I've heard a lot of good about as well as IBM (the 120 series is much better that the 75 which had some problems).

i have always use WD and it works fine...never used samsung before....
i would stick with WD.

I use nothing but WD at my work. I install around 20 a month in new PC's at my work and have only had 1 DOA. I use WD at my home too. So yes WD are good.
