RZA Jun 02, 2002, 12:15 PM i'm currently using XP but been having loads of problems so i wanna change
i also want to run dual OS with linux, but which windows shoudl i use
i want something that is reliable (unlike XP) and fast (unlike XP)
any comments appreciated
duffy90210 Jun 02, 2002, 12:42 PM For games, Win98SE, for work, Win2000 Pro, in fact, you can also use Win98SE for work also, but personally, I find 2000 to be fast and more stable, memory handling a lot better (512MB).
Using it alongside Linux is not really a problem, as most new Linux take more care when installing next to Windows.
HTH
kelkoo2002 Jun 02, 2002, 12:53 PM i agree win2000 is very good/stable
RZA Jun 02, 2002, 12:55 PM thanks for ur opinion,
some other ppl recommended win 2k so i'll prob go win2k and linux
just need to get win2k now!
cheers
dpmanx1 Jun 02, 2002, 03:46 PM i would recommend windows me
Soul Divide Jun 02, 2002, 03:53 PM I highly recommend Win2000 Pro also. I though M$ was actually starting to make better and better OSs, but the XP comes out and IMO it's inferior to 2k.
Jaice Jun 02, 2002, 11:37 PM WinXP Pro is very stable. I find it better that Win2000 Pro, and 98SE
MarcMail1IsBack Jun 02, 2002, 11:43 PM I've used them all! My choice..for games Win98SE for all other stuff Win2K!
I'm running now..win98/win2k/Linux redhat....dualboot!
Jeffrey Jun 03, 2002, 02:06 AM i'm using XP now but liked my 98se better
kornunknown Jun 03, 2002, 02:25 AM i'm loving XP..but if someone was wanting something else i would say go with win2k

get win2k
ish Jun 03, 2002, 05:49 PM i dual boot between win98se $ win2000
vike105 Jun 03, 2002, 10:50 PM windows xp is focused too much on flashiness and is more for beginners but if you know your computers you would be wise to go with windows 2000
AdioKIP Jun 03, 2002, 10:53 PM lol I want to agree with DGR, did you seriously recommend Windows ME....Even people who can't agree on Running 98SE, 2k, or XP all agree to avoid Win ME like the plague. Thanks for the good laugh though. As far as which. I would recommend 2k without a doubt. Much more stable than 98 as well as faster and more proficient. I reboot my computer less than 1 time per week and usually its only by choice. Even for games Win2k is a good OS. I have had very few games that would not run on Win2k and all that wouldn't were several years old. I would say Win2k is Microsofts best OS to date. XP has a chance at cathing it once they get some more kinks worked out and get it sped up a lil.
jokerz2000 Jun 04, 2002, 11:44 AM Take away the graphics in XP and you have win2k so use XP there is little difference just use the right drvers and u'll have no probs at all
V happy with XP here
Good on ya gatesy
stickyfingers Jun 05, 2002, 06:42 AM Go with 2k it's much more stable & easier to find drivers that work.
egobackups Jun 10, 2002, 09:07 PM i recommend windows me m8
NotAHacker Jun 10, 2002, 10:52 PM I would say XP or 2000.:tup: I like XP but I don't have a problem with any drivers. As far as Windows ME goes I would say it's safe to say that was the worst os windows came out with yet!!! In fact Bill I want my money back!!!!
:round::hdspin::round:
DVDGUY Jun 11, 2002, 02:10 AM I use Windows 2000 Pro and I love it... I took XP off my computer and re-installed 2k pro..
luciddreamster Jun 11, 2002, 02:14 AM i'm not sure exactly why you guys are getting such good laughs (but laugh on, it's healthy) but i, too, recommend windows millenium edition. i used it extensively and had very few, if any, problems. i had one computer running ME and another running 98se. i used both daily and found millenium to be far superior, personally. now i'm on xp pro and it seems quite stable so far. sure, you need a few drivers, but that's just so your apps can catch up with the times. just my 2 cents worth.
Hillfoot Jun 11, 2002, 01:00 PM windows 98se, whats the difference with win98?
win2000, whats the difference with me, pro, xp, xp pro etc?
is there a difference?
Beavis_the_cat Jun 11, 2002, 04:14 PM I have found windows 2000 to be very stable and fast. WIndows 98 is a piece of junk and it crashes ALL OF THE TIME!!! I wish I was brave enough for Linux.
gallacher2001 Jun 12, 2002, 07:19 PM I can only say from my point of view I was previously using windows ME, and I have to say personally...STEER CLEAR. My pc literally crashed daily, I almost ended up not being able to do anything on it realiably because it was so unstable. I've used windows 98se and I liked it, but again found it a bit volitile. I now use windows XP PRO, I find it frustratingly slow at times but it is by far the most stable and well designed OS I've ever used and I really couldn't go back to 98se + definately not to ME !
king nero Jun 14, 2002, 12:58 PM I like this: I wish I was brave enough for Linux
by Beavis the cat.
I once was thinking the same way, till i got up and bought me the mandrake.
still using win ever sinc, but hell what diff with linux.
if you got the balls ( :D ) go for linux.
(i don't want to offend anyone with this)
lhaney Jun 14, 2002, 03:49 PM This is an interesting post. Win ME sux......Win 98 Cool.......win 2000 stable, rarely restarted. Win 3.1......Just kidding......Win Xp Pro.....crashed like 3 times per day at first, then reinstalled it, now it works ok. Still wouldn't recommend it....it's for people that buy stuff cuz of how it looks. My customers love it.
dpmanx1 Jun 14, 2002, 03:54 PM windows me is the best...win xp too many problems
weewinkie Jun 15, 2002, 03:33 PM Agree with dpmanx windows ME no problems. XP you have to download this fix, change that, this program does not work with XP,etc, etc toooo much hassle.
