Does a TV DVD accept AVI files ?

No, a DVD standalone will not play an AVI. The AVI must be encoded into VCD compliant MPEG then burnt as a VCD in either WINONCD, NERO or EZCD Creator.

You can use TEMPEnc to encode your AVI, it is a free encoder.

DVD players generally accept the following disks:-

DVD which is MPEG2.
VCD (Video CD) which is MPEG 1.
Audio CD

Some DVD players accept CDR and CDRW disks.

To create a DVD you need a DVD Writer and a blank DVD disk. At the moment these cost quite a bit, whereas CD Writers and CDR disks are considerably cheaper.

VCD basically is a format used, especially in the Far East, instead of Video Tapes.

A VCD burned onto a CDR is about the same quality as Video if encoded properly and the source is good.
