Hey, hey, hey the new LTR40125S arrived today! Some of you may recall that I made my first post about a week ago saying that I had to run out and buy one of these drives because of the positive input to this board. Well, I wasn't joking about it. Have install the drive, runs perfect, and sure am proud to get rid of the old HP 12x8x32. Just like the commercial on tv about the little car, and the guy says, "Wind it up Baby!"
My sincere thanks to all!

PatG, enjoy the burner. I'm just sick they are now half the price I paid! :D

Also enjoy the forum as well, you can learn a lot here as well as contribute with your own wisdom too.

Cheers. :)

Thanks Lazza, I'm fast approaching my 65th birthday, been puting since '92 and have learned a TON of stuff about computers. Lurked here for about 6 mos off and on, but had to register to post my sincere approval of the thread about the liteon burner. Sure am glad I did and thanks again for the welcome!

However, I did try the 16x cd-r that someone on this board told me to use and they work fine. Just a tip...

Hey people! I just bought a liteon 40x12x48 drive too:) I hope i'll like it as much as my liteon 24x10x40 drive, does anyone know if the 40x can do SD2 backups?. I know my 24x could so i hope this 40x will do the job.

It should be noted that there are two different model 40X lite-on's. The 40125S and the 40125W. Although either can be flashed with the others firmware.

The new model 48X sounds pretty insane though. 48X full CAV writing and 24X rewrite... Pretty sure that those were the specs.

Anyway, I'm moving this to the consumer's opinion forum.

The LiteOn 40125 can do SD2 & SD2.51 backups with no probs m8. And yes, you will love it even more than your 24X :D

It says on the drive(not on the face) as well as in whatever burnware you are using also when you boot your computer up it should say.

Plenty of 48x rated media around here. Also plenty of non 40x rated media can be written at 40X. Just use the lite-on media check program, chuck a blank in the drive and it will tell you what speed it will burn it at.

Got a spindle of Princo 24X's, burn just fine at 40x. Also got a spindle of TDK 24x's smart burn will burn them at 24x. Also got a couple of spindles of Princo 48X's.

Hey I just found out that my new drive is the 40125w model. Does anyone know if it would be better to use the 40125s firmware? if so, what are the advantages?. Thanks in advance.

The 40125W uses P-CAV, which means that it is quicker. The latest firmware for the 40125S I believe supports Mt. Reinier, where as the 40125W does not, yet, unless there is a newer firmware that WS03.
