Just got a new sony vaio laptop with winme installed (i know its shite but it made it £100 cheaper than the one with XP).

Anyway, every hour its decided to play a nice alarm note to tell me its now 3:00pm (or whatever). This wouldnt bother me too much if I didn't have to go to meetings etc and leave it on over night. After 4 days its starting to piss me off.

Does anyone know how to turn it off? I've had a quick look through control panel and tried the Sony setup program but can't find anything.

Not sure how to stop it but maybe for the time being you could just turn the sound off, this could be a simple solution till the real one is found.

Yeh, I've been doing that, but there must be a better way. Is this just a sony laptop thing or do all versions of ME do this?

Only thing is I wanted the sound on cos I have programs running which should warn me when things happen. Like a mail monitoring program which detects a certain subject. This tells me when one of our systems go down, so it needs to running over night with the sound on, just in case.

I'm sure someone will have the solution :)

Not heard of this before with Me.

I reckon it's a Vaio thing, they do put some quirky stuff on them, I removed most of the pre-installed Sony software from mine. It must have filled a good 1/4 of the HDD alone!

have a look in control panel >sounds and multimedia see if this is there ,this is where all your sounds are ,if its there just highlight it then change to none ,or is there something running in the taskbar thats doing this .

I had winME on a desktop and it never had any alarm or anything like that. I think it must be something in the setup.

I've never seen ME do that before.

Try closing all your open programs and see if its one of those. Also have a look in add/remove programs.

Doesnt sound like Win ME at all.
Definately has to be an addition program that is running
take a look in teh startup folder, probably something tucked in there that is doing this.

Finally found it was a program I was using which monitored internet usage called magitime, should have guessed it was that by the name.

Thanks guys.
