I recently installed latest nVidia drivers (Detonator 28.xx) but afterwards, the display was stuck at 4-bit and after another reboot, Windows did not boot but came up with a message that said
"Windows has detected a ftal error and will shut down to avoid damage"
So I booted up to Safe Mode and that worked so now what should I do to ficx this problem?

When you are in safe mode, uninstall your video card. (Uninstall it from control panel)
When you reboot, Windows will find it, and ask for drivers. It may be a good idea to get some other version than the one you had problems with. :)

Since you say you recently installed the latest drivers you must have had a driver on there before. You can simply "roll back" to the previous driver with XP using device manager - assuming that driver worked ok ...

Doh....it is only two weeks since I uninstalled XP, and I have already forgotten that. :o
Either I am retarded, or I want to forget all the trouble I had with XP as soon as possible!

Why do you want any other ideas? Both my and Virgin San`s idea will work, but Virgin San`s is the simplest, so try that first. If not, uninstall it like I said.

I installed these drivers on a PC running XP, Tnt 32mb card and a TFT monitor, the picture went from being pin sharp to utter cr@p!
Wheras the drivers XP installed were fine, sometimes it's just best to leave things as they are if they are working fine. I have noted since that the latest nVidia drivers are getting very mixed reviews over at CNET from users.
As above, just use the driver rollback function. Another great feature of XP that actually works! :D
