Ok, i am in need of saome urgent help. I yanked the mouse out of the computer pretty hard and now it wont work. I have tried various mouses. A computer bloke just came round and told me it would cost £150 for a new system board. Is this what i need or is there a simpler solution? thanks

Is it a serial mouse or PS/2 mouse? I believe the fitting got damaged when you yanked the mouse out. Check to see if the fitting is soldered on the mobo or it's just a cable running out from the mobo to the bracket.

Please  and PC sometimes can't mix!

USB mice are fairly common now.

if you have a serial port and a PS2 port which either one you pulled it from just use the other port as QWERTY said if that fails use a USB Mouse
