Heres my problem....Im using neokey on a v5 PS2.
Everythings working great except....PSX games

First off, PSX backups wont direct boot. No biggie

So, i put in GS2.1 CD2, and try normal PS2 backup method. For some reason, my PS2 just wont read the GS2 cd2.

I also tried using the same method with GS cd1 and
I get all the way to were the PSX game will load to playstation logo of the backup but it freezes there.

Unfortunately, I dont have any PSX originals to test. I would say that the system doesnt read any PSX games, but it loads the the start of the game (playstation logo) when I use normal PS2 backup boot method.

Anyhelp is apreciated
Thanks

its probably a "biggie" since PSX should directboot in the first place if u installed it correctly (i think, i never had a usbmod so i dont exactly kno, correct me if im wrong). try looking at the link wire again to see if nothing has been bridged. it might be the reason why PSX games wont boot and the PS2 wont read the gs2

Yeah, im thinking it must be a problem with the install. This was my second mod install, and it seemed to go well. My PS2 backups are working great, so im not sure I want to open the PS2 back up and mess with the solder/wire. Although, I really wanna play FF7 for old time sake, aswell as a few other psx games. =)

After searching here and isonews, it seems that others have had this problem (psx cds not booting with usb mod), but ive found no solutions. The thing that gets me is that I get them the partly boot up when I use the normal PS backup boot method. It loads the game, the Playstation logo comes up, them freezes. I guess its possible that they are bad psx burns, and ive got a dud GS2 disc 2.

Im done rambling. Any help is appriciated =)

Thanks

the problem is the fact that you did not remove the SDM from the solder point by the usb port. I too did the same thing and it will not boot psx backups.....I have done many installs with the USB mod and have found that the v5 is the only one that needs the SDM removed in order to play psx. The v4 for instance, you put your psx backup in and turn the power off, turn it back on with the usb mod turned on and it boots everytime. With out the SDM removed, you will have to use your psx.

Not sure what "SDM" is, but im guessing your refering to the little thingy next to the solder point that needs to be removed in order for the light to come on. Well, I didnt remove that in the install, so maybe your correct. Can anyone else confirm this. If true, why isnt it stated in the installation guides. Not saying your wrong, just wierd that I wouldnt have read that by now.

Thanks

If your theory is true, any idea if its to late to remove that piece? I know I can remove it right now with no problems, just worried that it shouldnt be touched after the wire is already soldered.

you can go ahead and remove it at anytime. When I recieved mine in the mail, the instructions stated that the light would not blink nor would direct boot of psx backups work. THe funny thing is that if you attach the wire to the tops of the solder points, the light will work as it should, but the psx backups will not boot. I still have my psx hooked up for the psx games, so I did not remove this SDM. I have done an install on a v5 that I did remove it and it works just like all the others. If you email me, I can point you in the direction that the instructions state this.(i think) otherwise I will need to scan these in and post them for you.

I thought I read here several times that you take out the cap so that your neokey light works properly & thats all its for?
