know it sounds silly, but I keep seeing "ping" in things like winmx etc.

what does it mean?:hdspin:

Ping just send small packets of data to another PC somewhere and times how long it takes to get a reply back. Its useful for keeping your internet connection alive if your not using it. When you are using the connection, ping uses very little bandwidth so you won't notice any reduction in speed.

You can block people from pinging you with a firewall if you wish.

people also ping your ip on the net so they can hack into you computer. get a firewall if you don't have one
