Yep it's possible but running it as part of the network means that the host computer always has to be on. Better option is to use a router to share the connection.

See www.practicallynetworked.com for further info.

If you connect your two computers and the modem to a HUB, your provider will probably charge you for an extra IP address.

If you have not purchased a hub yet, I would recommend that you get a router (Linksys 4-port). The router will manage and share your internet connection for you without being charged for another IP address.

If you do not want to get a router, then you would need one computer to host the internet, and the other to act as a client. The host computer will need two network cards, one for the modem and one for your second computer. Your host computer will need to run Internet Connection Sharing and be ON for your second computer to be able to access the internet.

So to answer your question, yes it can be done, but you will have to pay for an extra IP address.

Go for the router!

If you havn't received you modem, make sure that they will send you a modem with a RJ45 connection. Some of the new modems come with USB and are, therefore, much harder to connect to a router or hub/switch.

Orson88 makes a very good point. It is very possible that your provider will charge you an extra $10 to $20 USD a month for each additional IP address. Investing in a router to get around this is the most logical solution to your problem. Of course RJ45 is always faster than using USB.
