I have a 40 GB hard drive with 4 partitions on it . I am unable to boot into windows as a result of a problem with the boot sector . I can access through dos with the use of a boot disk and would like to know if it's possible to just format the "C" drive only . I'm wondering if this method would only format "C" drive and the operating system and boot sector ? This should leave the other partitions untouched and avoiding loss of data on the other drive partitions . Is this possible ? Any ideas would be of great help .

Think it will depend on if partition magic type software was used to partition the HDD or fdisk was used

If your C: drive is Win 95/98, boot to DOS with a disc and type sys c: (you will need to copy the sys command to the floppy. This may well repair any damage to the boot files.

In answer to your question, yes you can just format C: and not affect the other partitions.
