Spyware sends details of your surfing habits back to BT or to anyone who's software you are using that contains spyware. They can then use this information to 'target' you in any marketing/sales pitch they may wish to make. Collecting information is costly, not everyone wants to answer banal and probing questions about their habits. Spyware does it for them - and you aren't even aware of it.
