VEFF Jun 15, 2002, 10:04 PM The home movies burned to DVD-Rs in DVD video format burned with Nero only play on some DVD players (e.g. Apex).
But they do NOT play at all ('disc error') on other DVD players such as Toshiba, XBOX.
However, the exact same home movies burned to DVD-R video discs using Stomp RecordNow Max work fine on all three DVD players.
I thought the new Nero would have fixed this, since they now have a new compilation type (DVD Video), but Nero still doesn't burn discs according to all the DVD video specifications.
If I only had the Apex, I would probably have continued to burn my home movies to DVD-R using Nero, since they work with the Apex.
Luckily I have the other two DVD players. That is how I found out that Nero-burned video DVD-Rs are not burned completely according to the DVD video standard.
Other people have had the exact same problems with Nero, according to the ower/administrator of one of the big DVD sites.
I am surprised it doesn't get mentioned more often, although I think many are using Prassi/Stomp instead of Nero, so they never experienced these problems.
I now use Stomp RecordNow Max instead of Nero for DVD video, which works fine.
I still use Nero for many other burning needs, just not DVD video.
Kaizerboy Jun 16, 2002, 03:27 AM Prassi Primo is top dog for burning dvd movies.
SpookynessUK Jun 16, 2002, 05:50 AM Would be nice to try Prassi if it recognized my Recorder and did not cause a fatal error when it reboots after the install.
Anyone else had this problem under Win XP Pro ?
Spook
marah Jun 17, 2002, 10:46 AM Movies burnt with nero don't work on the Cyberhome AD528 either no probs with prassi though!!
streetbuff64 Jun 23, 2002, 11:17 AM what about if you have a movie that was burnt with nero and you copy it
with prassi will it work then if you done a one to one copy
grandmaster_b Jun 23, 2002, 11:20 AM no mate best bet is to rip the dvd using smartripper then burn with prassi then is will be fine.
JSykas Nov 01, 2004, 02:40 PM I have the same problem you had. I could burn disks & verifiy until I downloaded the lastes Nero upgrade. Now, I can burn, but they will not verify 'cause they will not read in any of my Dvd's including Samsung & NEC. The disks just freeze up my computer, both those with XP & Windows ME.
They do play find in my Philips DVR642 player.
I guess I should change from Nero. Any other ideas?
Insomniac Nov 01, 2004, 04:26 PM Nero is only very new to DVD burning, so it will take some time to improve and mature.
At this stage, I personally wouldn't use Nero for DVD authoring, but for general CD work it can't be beaten.
bnbhoha Nov 03, 2004, 11:28 PM Uh, looks like someone resurrected this thread from 2002. The new nero 6.0 has improved and most would agree that almost all discs will play using atleast a Nero 6.3 or above. Personally, I use recordnowmax 4.5. Many times, I will just use dvddecrypter along w/ dvd shrink to burn/decrypt.
seedyrum Nov 13, 2004, 06:05 PM okI am glad you said that. I just got nerovison thinking it would help me with my dvd files. I was using dvdsanta but thought nerovision would work better. Was I ever sadly mistaken. Nero transcode whatever that means..then it wont even recognize what it has done..I am playing these Dvd in my computer then I tried with ps2 then xbox and neither works. Why cant they adequately test their software to make sure it works or stop using the words "some, many or most" When I se them saying, "will play in many players I figure that is at least 50%." when they say most I figure that is at least 75%, but actually its less than 10% and not even the player they are bundled with.
Another gripe..when Nero upgraded to 6.6 and would be adding nerovision. I thought it would be software to convert dvd files to the .vob format and when they said quicker. I thought quicker would be quicker than the rest of the pack but its still the same time length, forever. The home movies burned to DVD-Rs in DVD video format burned with Nero only play on some DVD players (e.g. Apex).

Jim Fraser Nov 14, 2004, 05:03 AM Use DVD Shrink. It rips and burns as fast as any software on the market and best of all it's FREE. Get your freeware copy at www.dvdshrink.org
Cobra Nov 15, 2004, 02:45 AM I use DVD Shrink & make ISOs of my DVDs then use Nero to put on DVD-r i can use DVD+r too but a got 500+ DVD-r to use up 1st.
will Alcohol 120% be better then nero for the isos.
8ruc1e Nov 15, 2004, 09:06 AM Nero works fine guys with all films.
