Katz Jun 16, 2002, 05:41 AM If you are downloading X-box games and waiting for your modchip to burn the games to make sure they work, you don't need to.
You can test your X-box burns without a chip.
When you put in a working X-box backup, it will read it and then go to the X screen with Microsoft at the bottom like it does when you boot a original game. After that it will give you an error screen about being the wrong media. If you put in a non-working burn, it will just popup the same error from the dash without going to the X screen. There u go guys!
   Peace d00ds
Cal_G_UK Jun 16, 2002, 07:02 AM I can second that although mine says incorrect region not incorrect media!
cdcloner Jun 16, 2002, 10:59 AM Good tip.
bearauto Jun 16, 2002, 12:00 PM Nice thanks!
deltwalrus Jun 16, 2002, 12:34 PM Great tip! I, too, get an error that the disc is not from the proper region. (This was from a DVD-R backup of an XBox game...system not chipped yet). When I put in a PS2 original or a PS2 backup (also on DVD-R, just to check), it says not an XBox, DVD, or music disc.
Great bit of info, Katz, thanks! Now I can get all these files off of my poor hard drive...
deltwalrus Jun 16, 2002, 08:28 PM OK, I get one or two that say incorrect region, the rest say can't read the media...
Can anyone confirm if both errors indicate a good backup?
Thanks!
Katz Jun 17, 2002, 03:59 AM npz d00dS! BumP ;)

socrates75 Jun 22, 2002, 06:49 PM I posted a thread on my results to this and no one seems to understand what im talking aboiut so i will say it here.
I burned a music cdr and played it on my xbox and it played fine so i would assume that when i get my xbox modded that i could use the same brand cdr's with games since the xbox reads that brand with music, but when i burned an xbox game to test it out i got the disk is dirty message, so whats wrong?

That IS strange...
Azayth Jun 22, 2002, 11:46 PM Maybe games are more taxing on the drive. like, music is read at 1x.. and games at 4x .. tell ya the truth i have no clue what games would be read at.. but you would think the faster the disc needs to be read the more errors it will get on lesser quality discs.. like "Dirty Disc"
Katz Jun 23, 2002, 08:21 AM Npz guys, glad to help out!, i see like 600 views! please reply if using peoples advice, it takes literally 2 secs!

To REALLY test it out, you burn music on a cdrw like you did, and if it plays ok on the music player, try to COPY ALL (musictracks) to your XBOX
if it does that correct and quickly, then you have a quality cdrw/xboxdvddrive.
music burned on a hp cdrw (came with my 2year old 8Xcdwriter) played fine, but when i tryed to copy the musictrax to the harddisc, it took like half an hour to copy 1 track.......:hdspin:
Katz Jun 26, 2002, 02:05 AM BuMping HeR Up! ;)
bearauto Jun 27, 2002, 08:18 PM OK, let me get this right:
Are you guys testing it by POWERING UP with the disc in, or just powering up first, and then inserting disc?
I ask this because I powered up with a BLANK IMATION disc and it came up with the X screen with "Microsoft" on the bottom, then got the error screen.
I inserted a VIVASTAR disc with Cel Damage on it and it did the same thing...
When I inserted the blank disc, the microsoft logo appeared a little later than when I inserted by backup, but it came up nonetheless...
bearauto Jun 29, 2002, 03:22 AM hello, any confirmations as to my last post?
bearauto Jun 30, 2002, 12:18 PM anyone reading this thread anymore?

OK, here it goes again:
I put in a burn that I made and got that x screen with microsoft at the bottom, and it went to an error screen.
Next, I put in a BLANK CDR and it got that x screen with microsoft at the bottom, and it went to the same error screen. Does this mean your "tip" doesn't really tell you anything?
Snoopn Jul 02, 2002, 11:59 PM dood this tip is DA BOMB
thanks heaps Katz
good work katz, it seems like everyone else seems to get it to work, just keep trying mate, ull get there!

Huh? My point was that even BLANK DISCS pull up that x screen with the microsoft logo on the bottom...

I totally see your point, but no one else seems to get it......
If it does the same thing with a BLANK disk, how can you tell if it's working with a good copied disk!!!!!
Come on people, any ideas?
Katz Jul 05, 2002, 03:20 AM BuMP, can anyone help out with this dudes issue?
bearauto Jul 05, 2002, 11:30 AM Have you guys actually tried sticking in a blank disk? That kinda makes this tip useless...
bearauto Jul 05, 2002, 07:12 PM move it to the top
scubbaman Jul 06, 2002, 06:12 AM You're right....the error comes up regardless. This tip doesn't do anybody any good.
bearauto Jul 06, 2002, 12:30 PM Sorry Katz, looks like this tip really is useless...
