I have read the posts on safedisc but I'm still a bit confused.

What is needed to copy them properly, is it certain reader/writer or can software get round the problem.

my first one is half life opposing forces (safedisc 1 i think) and clone will take an hour to read is that normal? I used isobuster on the game and it extracted all of it in a couple of minutes, can i do anything with the files on my HD? like a ps2 game make an iso and burn it with cdrwin. or must i clone it.

what is the best version of clone cd to get as some have hide cdr and AWS functions which are handy. and do i need to change regional settings on my pc to use clone properly before i install it

i looked here :

http://aws-function.itsplace.de/englisch/drive_s.html

and it says something about my drive but i cannot tell what lol, does this mean my writer is good at sd or not plz. mine is samsung sw 408b, think it saying i can copy some sd games.

many thanxfor any help :)

It says that your drive should be able to do SD2 copies with the aid of AWS, betablocker, etc.

For SD1, all that is required is a burner that supports RAW SAO, so you are right there aswell.

SD1/2 contains large numbers of unreadable sectors at the begining of the CD, this will majorly slow some readers down, but they will speed right backup once through the first 2% or so.

More info on SD1/2 here: http://members.optushome.com.au/spamcatcher/unsafedisc/

OK Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I am understanding a bit better now. out of interst though is there anything i could do with the files as if isobuster can rip it in a minute or two then i am wondering if patches kits could be used or make an iso so all could burn these types of games.

I will clone it though, is ver 4 the best as i read AWS and hide cdr functions are somethhing i should have.

thanx

Well, I guess you need AWS and the AWS pre v4, was no good for SD2.51.xx.

Hide CDR is only needed to play some games in a CDRW drive.

If you have just extracted the files, then the game would need a crack to run... Much better to have a 1:1 copy if possible.

Make sure that FES is enabled and on the best settings for your drive. But some drives are always going to be quicker than others at reading through the errors. For instance I have a Plextor 1210s that doesn't even slow down to read the errors, I also have a Lite-On 40125W and 163D and they are both slowed down a fair bit by the errors.

I made a backup of a SD1 game ok, so thanks m8. Just SD2 to try now.

What i was weondering is if i could exttract the files and then use mastering s/ware like cddvd gen to put them back on the cd in right order. would this bypass SD? i dont know as i am only starting to understand how it works.

i used to do it with ps2 games rip the files and put back inright order, and all was fine. that was nothing to do with protection. i am curious if it would work unless SD is in with files somehow. i would try but if it dont work i wont know if its cos the method was wrong or what. any ideas?

lastly i have clone 3341 and d/l ver 4. after uninstalling old ver can i use my key for v4 or do i need to mail elby for a new one?

v3 key works for v4.

If you have just ripped the files then you need to use a crack. If you want a quick copy with the files in the correct order, then use daemon-tools to do a quick dump. It won't be a true 1:1 copy though, but will work with daemon-tools SD emulation.

As I said, best to get a 1:1 copy if possible.
