1) Floppy disk in the drive?
2) Does it show that it can detect your hard drive?
If so the boot files must be corrupt. boot from the cd or a boot floppy & type sys a: c:

The boot floppy may be bad as well.
Does it detect the harddisk during boot???
You can boot off the Win98 install cd is you have one to hand. You will need to change the boot sequence in the BIOS though.

If the operating system is not being found, it sounds as though some (or all) of the system files are missing or may be corrupt. Did you have up-to-date anti-virus software on your PC as it could have been the recent klez virus that has been going around. Part of the damage caused by klez was renaming system files.
Once you have booted with a bootable floppy (that works !), might be worth searching the \windows and \windows\system directories for anything with a .000 or .001 etc extension as this is what klez did to the files. If there are any, they might just need renaming.

Hi M8 If it's not a virus and your floppy drive is working get an other windows start updisk and start pc with cd rom support and reinstall windows from windows 98 disk
