I have a problem with playing DVD's on my PC. I have tried various players (WinDVD trial version, PowerDVD trial version, the player which comes with certain DVD's and a couple of others, all with the same effect - I can browse the DVD menus, but not play the film. This happens on both region 1 and region 2 films, the DVD player doesnt have region locking and I'm using region killer to let it appear as a player from the appropriate country.

When I play the film it skips through each of the chapters in turn till the end of the film. Takes about 15 seconds depending on the number of chapters with no picture or sound produced.

This is, as you can imagine, extremely frustrating. I've re-installed my operating system (was a new build in any case) and, as mentioned above, have tried numerous players and disks to no avail.

Has anyone any suggestions as to what the fault is, or even better, what the cure would be???
System is running on win98 with a matsushita sr-8175 DVD rom.

Thanks in advance

Derick

I've got a similar model: matsushita sr-8174, which won't play certain DVD's. Works fine with older DVD's but not with up to date ones such as "Bridget Jones Diary". Are u(turf) experiencing similar problems - assuming the initial problem is resolved? Is there a firmware upgrade available for these models?
