Thank you all,
I had real family problem and my 8 years old son was upset, but after reading millions of posts, following endless links, reading a trillion guides i have done it for him.:)

Only cost me 74.99 for standalone dvd player and a few late nights but with your help and 3 posts, I saved around £4,000. (price of trip to USA for me and him lol).

Anyway enuf of the soppy stuff, just a few little questions i can not find answers to anywhere, if anyone still feels like helping us.

1. I mastered VCD, Svcd, Avi, Kazza, Porn dialers,Ad-ware, downlading, mpeg, converting etc in a few weeks and had time of my life but can't get broadband here so! (better tell you I don't got credit card)
a) Any info on Pipex adsl?
b) Is getting from newsgroups as easy, as i having a few probs following the guides?
c) What the h*** is fdp?(think that was it, do't have to explain method, just what is it?)
d) My son wants to know how to put chocolate down phone line so he can send you all a Mars ?;)

Anyway loads of thanks.

I'll try to help on a couple of these

In my experince Newsgroups are a waste of time for movies/VCDs. Unless you have a really good server the retention rates of posts is terrible.
Essentially a poster splits the VCD into a number of smaller files, for a full movie this could be over 100. Each file is then uploaded to their ISP/ News server, these files are then picked up by connecting news servers who may or may not pick up or retain all of the files, the remaining files are passed on to other news servers until some of the files eventually reach your news server. Unless you can find and download all of the files the reconstructed movie (vcd) will be useless.

c) What the h*** is fdp?(think that was it, do't have to explain method, just what is it?)

File Transfer Protocol is another method of transfering data over the internet. the 'HTTP' in web addresses stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol, a protocol that determines how web pages are accessed.
Well FTP is another (some would say more primitive) method of transfer.
You will need an FTP client (programme) like CuteFTP, the FTP server address (IP address) the server logon & password.
The FTP client connects to the FTP server and allows youto navigate the directories stored on that server. If you have the rights you may also transfer files to that server (upload) or transfer files from the server (download).
The real trick is finding FTP servers that you can access that have anything you want. There's no friendly tools that search FTP sites the way www.google.com allows you to search http sites.

d) Sending chocolate down the phone lines?, don't be silly it would be melted by the time it arrived, now if you could work out a method for  that would be useful.
