Yeah when you're asleep it crawls up your ps2 and starts beating on it.:)No i don't think the neo 2.2 destroys your laser, whoever told you that probably mean that the backups you play destroy it,which it doesn't really.the laser might work alittle harder but i don't think it destroys the laser.

If you don't install the cap it will damage your laser fast. If you install the cap, it will slowly, but not too much.

I had an early U.K PS2 with neo 2.2. Had real probs booting games after a while, and even with all the propper AR and everything would just not read any DVDr games. So I'd say, yeah it did in my PS2, but may have just been a freak fault in my PS2.

all modchips eventrually kill your lasers. they let the ps2 read cd's that werent designed for play on the console

i still run a version 3 that i got on the day the ps2 was released
it got chipped the day neo 2 came out then upgraded to 2.2 as soon as that was available and its still going strong
lasers r subject to wear and tear so it depends how much u use it to how long it lasts

Yeah, it all depends how much you play..

More Time Playing = More Wear and Tear On The Laser

I play my ps2 for about 30 mins a week so I think i will be o.k

"DVD-Rips destroy your ps2, DVD Movies destroy your ps2, dvd-r destroys your ps2, gamesharks destroy your ps2, neo 2.2 destroys your ps2"............... why don't you just enjoy the ps2 and stop worrying?

eventrually, yes. but it doesnt do anywhere near the damage of games, since it require more loading and searching

After reading all that has been posted i think we can safely say nobody really knows.
I was in the process of purchasing a NEO 2.2 for my PS2 v.4. but i think i will hang on a bit untill i hear somthing a little more concrete about the affects..
I wonder if the messiah would be the better option??????????????

Dude just forget all of those posts. The laser will work.I have a v1 ps2 with a neo2.2,it's really old,and it STILL plays everything.Just burn at a slow speed and you'll be fine. There are always risks involved in everything, but what would life be like if you always take the save route?????I'll tell you.It would be boring as hell.Just go for it.:D

It can happen straight away with some ps2 ie, stops playing DVD/r but still reads CD/r. It just depends how lucky you are. I have a V4 and it is still fine, but I know of friends who have a V3 and V5 respectively and their lasers shot out more or less straight away. Personally I don't recomend the Neo 2.2, Neo 2,5 is better and because swapping is automatic for CDr and DVDr it puts less strain on the laser.

I think that if you have a decent rip that doesn't make the ps2 zip zip zip CONSTANTLY then you should be ok.
have you ever opened up a laser? like taken the plastic sheild off?
it has electromagnets that make it go up and down, I don't if dvd lasers are all made this way or what, but I think that basically these lazers aren't meant to be moving around too much. so if theres a lot of seeking on the disc then i would advise against it, maybe good media would be better i dunno, but i fried a ps2 on a cd rip of a dvd game so I'm paranoid now

honestly, i think that this is all in ur heads. Maybe a little dust got in the PS2 when u opened it to chip it, and thats whats screwing up. I Mod Ps2s, and out of over 50, all are still working. These go back as far as version 1, when i first chipped my V1 in Feb. of 2001. That PS2 is still working at my family's house. I keep tabs on my customers to keep them coming back, and they are all pleased. So, i do disagree with the idea of the NEO2.2, or any chip destroying ur laser. Like a couple of people said, Using cheap media could be a problem. I would not know this, cuz i use and recommend nothing but verbatim datalife plus.

Well I have had a Neo2.2 in my V4 PS2 for about 3 months now and I haven't had a problem yet that wasn't my fault (just bad timing mistakes when booting).

Even non modded ps2s have laser issues believe it or not.

i had a neo 2, then the laser got messed up. I don't think it's the chip's fault. Blame Sony for providing us with bad laser

I had a V4 which had no probs for months... then i dropped it and sony replaced it. The one they sent didnt play dvd's at all right from the start. So chip or no chip, there is no safe bet so just get on with it and enjoy it while it lasts.

Yes, I heard about a guy who chipped his PS2, he dropped it.

I've really had it with ps2s and modchips, sony included some of the shittiest lasers ever on their system, I remember playing PSone and DC backups for years and not having any problems with the lasers, right now I'm just sticking to xbox, no swapping bullsh*t, every xbox is compatible with every modchip, plus a 12 wire mod is already out and only goes for $50 or so, unlike the ridiculously priced $100 messiah

I have a NEO 2.2 installed about 4 months ago. No problems. Yet.

I must say though that Sony gave the psx 2 the crappiest lasers possible. I think Cd Players have better lasers than these. Why? I have no idea, but it sucks.

Like everybody else, I suggest that maybe using good media and getting into the habit of cleaning your psx2 and lens could lengthy the time of the system. But, it will fail someday. I've had my psx for 4 years now and it hasn't fail me yet. If my psx2 can last that long, I would be happy. If not, I'm gonna complain to sony.

But hey, I have a question; How good is the Messiah? Is there any swapping involved in it?

Jaegermeister2k
Jun 28, 2002, 02:15 PM
No the messiah doesn't require any swapping at all.Everything is selfboot.

PS:Why does everyone say psx2?It's ps2,the x has no meaning,no matter what some people tell you.

no i dont think it destroys your laser anymore than playing originals as you would wear it out even playing originals. the only reason it might wear out more is crap media or because you play a load more games when you have your ps2 chipped as theyre cheaper.
