I recently bought a ps2 and what was supposed to be a messiah chip. But I think its a neo 4. How can I be for sure other than with a dvdr?

try an import game and press reset and if it boots then you got a messiah, otherwise a neo 4. also try a different region dvd movie as a neo4 can play them

Try to play a dvdr, put it in the cd tray, close it, and hit reset. It it doesn't play the game then its a neo4.

I dont have any dvdrs, imports, or multi regon dvds or anything like that to test is there any other way. Like with mine I have hit reset on the blue bottom ps2 games but everthing works fine. Also my ps2 on the tv screen looks like it has a small black bar at the bottom of the screen kind of giving the look that something has been patched from pal to ntsc.
Supposubly mine doesnt have the ps1 fix what problems would I be noticing if it didnt have the fix?

when u pl;ay psx backups or originals or imports...the color should be all distorted, like purple and all (thats only for NTSC tho). u can go to www.china-messiah.com and if u scroll down a little bit on the homepage it gives you an example of it.

So try one of your psx backups....if its like that u know u have a messiah, if it looks normal a neo4

The Color for PS1 might not be disortered cause there a fix for it now.

Open up your PS2 and have a look, you won't void your Sony warranty, cause its all ready gone.

when u put a cdr in does it boot up from browser screen - or do you have to press reset for it to boot, if you have to press reset (and your console isnt a V4 - as messiah can boot from browser screen on v4) its a messiah. ;)

if u have a unpatched ea game...put that in and if it direct boots its a Messiah, if it doesnt its a Neo 4 (you need to swap for ea games).

or....forgot the simplest thing ever! if your PS2 still displays the 'Playstation 2' logo when booting a game...its a messiah
