When you say in DOS.. do you mean in DOS or in a DOS prompt.

When you say DOS have do you mean true DOS? Not just restarting in MSDOS but actually shutting the PC down and then starting with a command prompt only? If not, try that ....... if you have then sorry for going over what you've already tried :)

Are you very sure you want to delete this file?
Most files that are not 'deletable' do not have this security to piss you off...
It might be a system file you know. Deleting this will most likely cause your system to fail in several operations.
What are the filename and extension of the file?

I tried to delete from the dos prompt not true dos. How do I boot into dos before windows starts up? BTW The file is safe to delete as its an MP3. Thanks for your help guys..

to boot into true dos when you restart your computer press f8 before windows loads up properly, you will get a menu, just follow instructions from there.

Exactly what is the name of this file?
You better becareful about simply deleting a file that is always in use by Windows....there might be a reason for it. I suggest you rename it instead of deleting it first, boot the system into Windows and verify that nothing breaks, then delete the renamed file if everything checks out OK. (you can always rename the file back if you realize that you need it)

If it is a mp3 file and you are not allowed to delete it, it must be some program acessing it. Do you have any mp3 players open, or lying in the systray? If so, close them and try again.

Hi again. Well I tried to delete the file from dos and still no luck. Getting message "Access Denied" It appears that I have got some damaged areas on my H/D and this must where this particular file is located. So looks like its going to be a new H/D. Oh well was thinking about getting a 120gb 7200 anyway. Thanks everyone for your valued advice.
